  5. Here we have the baritone and coll as hell voice of Common with one stellar production by Kanye West, and the result is very nice indeed. It starts with a bang, with a Intro full of instrumentalization and a bombastic style, that sets the stage for some funky tunes. I will be coming back to this album .
  6. Albums that open up with a song that’s literally titled “Intro” as a clear tease/lead-in are a phenomenon I’ll never understand. It’s not that the songs are bad – quite the opposite. More often than not, you’ll come across an “Intro” opening song on an album that’s just fire, but turns to smoke in less than two minutes.

  9. Compared to the esoteric themes and production of his last album, Electric Circus, Be is far more grounded in street-level beats and rhymes, especially on songs like "The Corner" and "Real People"--Common's odes to personality and places 'round the way. At only 11 songs, this is a very compact album, both a blessing and curse by keeping the pacing brisk but it also amplifies weaknesses like the /5().
